Appearance can be such a trickster. What we think we see may not be the whole picture.
Especially in late winter. So despite the sunshine and clear blue sky, I donned my heavy coat before I walked down to feed my horses.
Ida and Captain trotted up to the fence, nickering and tossing their heads around. Ida reached across the wire, giving me a chance for a quick pet and nuzzling of her neck.
Her scent is a tonic to my tired soul.
It felt good to be outside. I sat quietly and watched them eat. The steady rythym of their eager munching accompanied only by the repetitive sound of the “hoo-hoo” birds.
Such a wonderful morning.
I didn’t need a mirror to realize I was smiling. It rose from inside my heart and suddenly I was thirty again. Or maybe younger. I couldn’t be sure.
What I recognized for certain was a sense of being hopeful and content and eager to take on the day. A youthful spirit restored my tired soul.
It was a turnaround from just a few minutes before when I looked in the mirror to wash my face and comb my graying…
